We are seeking two driven Ph.D. students to join our team and contribute to various interrelated and intriguing research projects focused on AI-driven sustainable design and manufacturing at extreme scales. As a Ph.D. student, you will have the opportunity to use AI/ML and computational geometry in solving fundamental problems at the cutting-edge areas of conversational gamified design, volumetric representations of compositional manufacturing for the circular economy, and collaborative fabrication of pseudo-composites.
You should demonstrate the ability and potential to:
– think critically and creatively
– be patient, curious, and driven
– conduct research independently and collaboratively
– communicate clearly to broad audiences and publish in top-tier journals
You also need to have a:
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or computer science with an emphasis on CAD/CAM/CAPP, design and/or manufacturing
Strong academic background in math, computational geometry, knowledge representation, AI/ML, algorithms and data structures
Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in computational geometry and AI/ML (e.g., Python, C++)
Having any of the following skills, or a willingness to acquire them quickly makes you a strong candidate:
– Knowledge of deep learning, and Natural Language Processing methods
– Knowledge of logic, graph theory, and packing
– Hands-on experience in designing and fabricating 3D-printed assemblies
– Hands-on experience with 3D scanners
– Familiarity with digital CAD tools like Cura, meshmixer, Onshape
– Familiarity with graphic engines, e.g., Unity or Unreal
– Fondness of puzzles and games (especially Tetris!), encryption, and virtual/augmented reality
– Familiarity with empirical research methods in social sciences
– Prior publication in top-tier journals, and presentation at conferences
– Interest in other fields, e.g., economics, psychology, and philosophy of science
