Position Description:
The Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) opportunities are available for motivated MS and PhD students in Structural Engineering at West Virginia University, starting Spring and Summer 2025. Selected students will work under a distinguished professor on research in structural engineering.
Qualifications:
- PhD applicants must hold an MS degree in Structural Engineering.
- Minimum CGPA requirements: 3.0 in BS and 3.30 in MS.
- GRE Quantitative score in the 80th percentile or higher.
- English proficiency: IELTS score of at least 6.5 in all bands or equivalent TOEFL scores.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in structural design, such as in a design consulting firm.
- A strong passion for advancing structural engineering research and commitment to publishing high-quality papers.
Research Topics/Area:
Research areas include bridge engineering, fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) applications, timber structures, and life-cycle analysis (LCA) focusing on the carbon footprint of structural materials.

About PI/Dr./Professor:
The professor leading this research is nationally recognized for his contributions to structural engineering, holding over 13 patents and having supervised more than 300 MS and PhD students. His previous students have successfully moved on to faculty positions at prestigious institutions, such as UC Berkeley and NC State.
