Position Description:
A fully funded assistantship is available for a motivated PhD or Master’s (by research) student to join Dr. Zhi Yang’s research group in the Department of Human Nutrition, Food, and Animal Sciences at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, starting in Fall 2025. The research focuses on food chemistry and ingredient functionality, with specific emphasis on developing novel fat mimics and valorizing tropical agricultural and food waste.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in food science, food engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.
- Effective communication skills with a minimum IELTS score of 7.0.
- GRE test scores (required for international applicants).
- Strong motivation to conduct research on food physicochemistry.
- Attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
- Peer-reviewed publications in reputable food science journals (required for PhD applicants).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated laboratory skills and analytical abilities in food chemistry or related fields.
