PhD Opening | Aerospace Engineering | University of South Florida | Florida, USA

Dr. Sonya Tiomkin

The Bio-inspired Aerodynamics Lab (BiAeroLab) at the University of South Florida (USF) seeks candidates for two funded PhD positions to join us as early as Spring 2024. In the BiAeroLab we develop mathematical models to study the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic advantages of biological fliers, with the long-tenn goal of applying this knowledge to the design of future air vehicles.

Qualifications

  • We seek exceptional and highly motivated candidates striving for knowledge who are keen to understand nature physics through elegant mathematics.
  • The successful candidate will have a BSc. in Aerospace Engineering or a closely related subject with high achievements in Mathematics and Fluid Mechanics.
  • All applicants must satisfy USF graduate program admission requirements: https://www.usf.edu/udmissions/index.aspx.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSc. in Aerospace Engineering or closely related subjects.
  • Research experience in a related field.
  • Experience with Matlab and/or programming.

Research Area

We have several projects that involve analytical and computational approaches to study problems in the fields of fluid-structure interaction, unsteady aerodynamics, and aeroacoustics.
