Dr. Christopher Solis
A Graduate Assistantship (GA) is available in Fall 2024 for students admitted to a Ph.D. degree in the exercise physiology or nutrition area at the Department of Health, Nutrition and Food Sciences. The selected students will be 1) provided with professional mentorship, including experiential learning, during the training program; and 2) provided leadership, teaching and entrepreneurial training through workshops, internships, and/or supervised teaching opportunities. This program will be an enriching training experience on cardiac muscle mechanobiology research. The GA program as well as the degree will systematically teach the student sophisticated laboratory techniques while offering the opportunities to interact with collaborators and learn how these skills are necessary and applicable towards excellence in cardiovascular research.
Qualifications
- An M.S. degree with an overall 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) GPA in all graduate coursework attempted.
- GRE: Verbal ≥ 150, Quantitative ≥ 150, and Analytical Writing ≥ 3.5.
- TOEFL 80 or IELTS 6.5 (for non-native English speakers).
- Research experience is a must.
- Preference is given to those individuals with research experience in molecular biology, protein biochemistry and/or microscopy.
Funding
The selected Ph.D. students will have the following benefits for the 2024-2025 academic year, with a possibility of renewal:
- Annual stipend: $25,000 per year
- Tuition waiver and health insurance benefits
- Opportunity for travel funds to attend the scientific meetings
