A fully funded Ph.D. position (starting in the Spring semester of 2024) is available in the Department of Nuclear, Plasma & Radiological Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, USA (https://npre.illinois.edu/). The successful candidate will work in the Radiation & Corrosion Damage on MAterials Performance (RCD-MAP) group driven by Prof. Jianqi Xi (jianqixi@illinois.edu) to study the fission product behavior in TRISO fuel particles through multiscale modeling approaches. Requirements:

  • B.S./M.S. degree in Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, or Nuclear
  • Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English
  • The selected candidate should be motivated, open-minded, highly dynamic, and capable of working in a team Other desirable skills:
  • Experience in molecular electronic simulation codes
  • Experiences in DFT and MD calculations, or/and Machine learning
  • Programming skills (Python and C++) What we offer:
