Dr. Zhihui Sun
The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at University of Louisville is actively looking for a highly motivated postdoc fellow to join our projects on cementitious materials. You will work on research and development efforts to produce sustainable and functional cementitious materials through design, characterizing, and testing.
Area of Research and Primary Responsibility
The research area will be focused on sustainable cementitious materials including magnetizable concrete for in-pavement charging, using recycled and upcycled materials in concrete; natural and man-made supplementary cementitious materials; etc. This position is under supervision of Dr. Zhihui Sun
The successful candidate should have problem-solving and critical thinking skills with a great working attitude. He/she is expected to demonstrate creativity and leadership skills to lead and coordinate research efforts. With strong oral and written communication skills, he/she will assist the supervisor with proposal writing, quarterly and final search reports, technical articles in top journals, conference poster and oral presentations, etc. The candidate will also help mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the research group. On some occasions, the candidate will be helping the supervisor with organizing academic events, such as workshops, meetings, symposia, etc. The successful candidate is also expected to have excellent multitasking and project management skills, meeting the deadlines set by the funding agencies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a focus on cementitious materials or relevant fields.
- Extensive knowledge in cement hydration mechanism, cement chemistry and mineralization,
microstructural characterization. - Good lab skills and experience in characterization tools, such as SEM, EDX, FTIR, XRD, TGA, etc.
- Background in modeling, programming, and molecular dynamics is a big plus.
This position is expected to start immediately. This is a multiyear position with an initial appointment of one year. The position offers a whole package of salary and benefits based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. The position will be open till filled.
